Airfix Luftwaffe Ground Crew

Airfix launched the Luftwaffe set in 1977.  Moulded (thankfully) in the same blue-grey plastic as most of the other German figures (infantry, Mountain Troops etc), these chaps were mostly clad in overalls and side caps.  As such my set has been extensively plundered over the years, mostly to provide artillery crews.  At least it is entirely historically appropriate that surplus Luftwaffe units were combed for personnel to reinforce the Ostfront!  Some of the survivors were finally painted as God and Airfix intended and are pictured below.

Fire extinguisher(?) and oil can.  Or are they just watering the flowers?
All four LW crew stands readying a Ju-52 Staffel.  The '52 is an Eduard kit.
"Is that a bomb in your hand or are you just pleased to see me?"
Spannerman and the chap I refer to as '1970s wargamer' with his metal cantilever toolbox.
Refuelling Tante Ju.
Still to come - the RAF.

Another Airfix set :-) Great little dios here Tim. My favourite from thid set is the Pilot running...a very heroic and virtually impossible pose if ever there was one.
Cheers
Paul

Happily I've just found an untouched set in my 'stock' of kits.

Ah yes - the running pilot - one of the classic crap toy soldier poses.

Very sweet! It reminds me of the old Nazi Berlin Airport-Tempelhof? That's massive. They ought to turn it into a museum.

Templehof in 6mm? Now that would fill a table!

Templehof in 6mm! I found a website with free downloadable Nazi hangars for printing on card. Shall we have a go ?

Ahem!.. If I might correct you on the 1970's wargamer's tool box. Surely "Hammerite Blue" is the authentic colour? I still have mine with an AK47 army in it :O)

You are quite right in that most such tool boxes were that fetching shade of blue - I still have one with, er, tools in it (don't tell anyone!) However, they did show up from time to time in different colours. including red, grey and the pale green sported my by LW chap.
