Roman Auxiliary Infantry - part 1

In a shock development I have been doing more painting!  This time the unlucky victims of my paintbrush are a small batch of HAT Roman Auxiliary Infantry.  Here they are in their half-painted state on temporary bases.
The figures cleaned up nicely - although now I've started painting it is obvious that I missed a few bits of flash.  The shields slotted into place easily and were each secured with a dab of PVA.  The pilums (pila?) were rather more of a challenge, but happily most of the chaps are brandishing their swords (ooh-er missus...).   More pics when they're finished.

Don't you find it more difficult to pain the figures with the shields already glued on?

Not really - they're only getting a basic paint job and I'd probably knock all the paint off by fitting them afterwards!

Plural of pilum - pila but can also be pilums..but I think that´s bastard latin :-D
Trick...go on the web..find some shield patterns, download them, put em on Word..resize. If you use prittstick to glue them it holds like concrete.
Cheers

Bastard Latin - as against bloody Greek? Good tip about the shield patterns - and I thought you painted yours....

My Roman guys all get laurel leaf wreaths because I can paint em (sort of).

My chaps will have vague squiggles which, when viewed from a distance of ten feet, in poor light by gamers with dodgy eyes may look a bit like laurel leaves...

A profusion of scales abound here Tim, old 25mm versus new big 28mm, new HaT 20mm

I am trying not to be sucked into both 15mm and 25/28mm ancients

Naval is the only theme I don't mind having multiple scales, I just cannot resist good model ships

I try to avoid being a 'scale Nazi', but that said I do have Nazis in several scales! I wonder it's like to have self discipline...

Self discipline? Mate, I wish I knew!

My EIR Ex had to make do with just plain green shields...

Good work mate.

Great stuff Tim. What with you doing all these ancients, it's about time I got on and did some more tanks!

Vague squiggles have been added, but plain green was very tempting!

I'm beginning tom understand why tanks caught on - they're a damn sight easier to paint than this lot!
