A greater Gustav? Part 1

The rescue (up to a point) of an old Airfix Bf-109G earlier this year (see parts one, two and three) reminded me just what a dodgy old kit it was.  The earlier versions were well covered by the crisp Matchbox 'E' anf the Frog 'F' but a decent 'G' has (not that I've been looking) eluded me.  It was with interest therefore, that I noticed the Hobby Boss kit of the G-6.  Not a manufacturer familiar to me, I remembered Stephen B's build of the Hobby Boss Mig-15.  That the G-6 kit was cheap clinched the deal.  Obviously to celebrate it being half price I bought two....
The kit goes together in rather a different way to most I have encountered.  Rather than the fuselage being in two (often ill-matched) halves to which the wings then need sticking - hopefully at the correct angle - the HB kit comes out of the box as per the photo above!

So far it's going together nicely.  The kit is designed to be built wheels-down, so to build it with the undercart folded needed some bodging.
There will now be a pause while I decided upon and apply suitable paint schemes...

I think 'rivet counters' will have problems with Hobby Boss kits, but I found them easy to make and crisp mouldings and, of course, cheap. Yes, some details were omitted, but for young gamers or war-gamers they seem perfectly fine.

I've been tempted to go back and get either their P-40 (my favourite plane) or a French D.520...Having said that I've also had my eye on a Revell Neiuport WW1 fighter (but that may be opening Pandora's Box)!!!

I like the fact that even in a new build kit you manage to fit in a bodge.

Progress report sooner rather than later please!

There are lots of potential schemes out there: RSI, Slovak. Rumanian, Finnish, even Japanese.

A nice simple looking kit.

Had a poke about Wings Pallete on your behalf- push the baot out and go for a Partisan one.

Or else take the good WgCdr's advice and go RSI.

Cheers,

Pete.

It seems OK to me - does that mean I'm young?

Kit quality is no obstacle to bodging Paul! Progress may be delayed due to the Airfix Zero someone just talked me into building....

Call me a heretic, but I was thinking Luftwaffe for these!

After the dreadful Airfix 109s of my youth I think I owe the world a decent Luftwaffe example.
