With a tow, row, row, row, row, row, for the British er, Engineers

My cunning(?) plan to expand my Funny Little Wars Naval Brigade to a full-size ‘army’ will require an additional infantry battalion, a cavalry regiment, more guns and various other add-ons.  Not least of these is this Royal Engineer detachment.
The helmeted chaps are all Armies in Plastic gunners, while the lantern wielder is from
a CTS ‘trappers and miners’ set.  The ‘fifth man’ came from a farm animal set.

The painting process was shared with an AIP Gatling crew – more on them coming soon.

Baffled by the title?  Have a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGrxHO-B2TY

Maybe it's the poses, may the hair and the moustache on the one chap, but they rather give off a Village People vibe. Most endearing.

Cheers,

Mike

Spooky or what but I clicked here to write exactly what the mad padre wrote!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't repeat his words but imagine them singing " In the Navy."
I can almost hear the faint sounds of we want you as a new recruit coming across the battlefield.
Perhaps as a '80s barbershop quartet they can have the same morale boosting role as a band?

Anyway I look forward to seeing these splendid chaps and the naval brigade on the battlefield this summer!

A decent crop of facial hair seems to have been de rigeur in the Edwardian era. I wonder what HGW would have made of the Village People....

This obsession with Village People is quite disturbing! Hopefully you can meet my saucy sailors in person this year.

What excellent fellows - they certainly look the part. The mention of Village People reminds me of the time that I was regularly buying 54mm toy soldiers from a stall on Portobello Road. I'd just picked up (oo er) some rather fine sailors, and blurted out to the stall holder, 'I do love sailors!'. Fortunately, my beautiful and scantily clad wife was with me at the time...

Dear Tim,

Excellent fellows, well done!

"Good Morning Mr Stevens" is the song that you want. Seldom sung, except for its bowdlerised verion in rugby clubs, and for good reason. Otherwise known as "Hurrah for the CRE".

Thanks for that - who'd have thought that you'd get enthusiastic about a post featuring some engineers....
