I took these photos ages ago - at the same time as I posted the photos of my other early WW2 Brits - then kept forgetting to post them! This Matilda Mk1 was built from the Skytrex metal kit and was already quite elderly when I acquired it nearly 20 years ago in battered but unbuilt condition. I feel that the paintwork is certainly showing it's age, especially in the harsh glare of the camera flash. Do I need to repaint it?

"Only repaint if absolutely necessary" I keep telling myself, "Time is better spent building something new" Do I follow such sage advice - No.
So go with your feelings
Tim
It looks fine, but like most of us could do with a touch up.
Did she take your money and run Venezuela?

I love this awkward little beauty
I have two myself ;)
One painted and one undercoated

Arras or bust
If you are referring to the odd spots of exposed metal, Tim, I would put them down to the marks and badges of a long and glorious military life - and would leave them as they are. Apart from anything else, they are not all that unrealistic in appearance anyway, except that they would have a tendencey to rust. So if you were thinking of a touch up, why not make a virtue those dings and scars of outrageous fortune, and touch them up with an orange-brown rust colour?
Cheers,
Ion
no repaint needed....looks like it's seen hard service, so it
looks the part!
Dear Tim,
It will indeed need a repaint ... in another 20 years or so :O)
Regards, Chris
Na, just wash some of the mud off.
Coolies, one of my all-time favs, my two are SHQ, I like yours the way it is
I think it looks OK, spend your time on something new.

Even if I do decide on a repaint, it ain't happening anytime soon!

At 8mph flat out I think it would take a fair while to get there!

I always wanted one but could never be bothered with the complex looking scratchbuild in the Airfix book. Picking this up cheaply was a good solution!

I hadn't noticed any bare metal! Your plan is a good one.

That was the view I was coming round to!

So soon? Looks like the 2030s will be a busy decade...

I'm afraid the 'mud' is varnished on!

Another vote for laziness - I like it.

As if I have a stash of new toys to paint (cough splutter...)
A cracker of a AFV Tim with a nice wear and tear appearance.
I don't think its worth bothering adding any more paint to it myself, rust never sleeps after all!
Paul (and Neil Young)
Quite right. I'll leave it as is and crack on with more Tratvians...
Keep it as is. Looks great.
