Parthian horse archers

Fresh off the production line are these Parthian Horse Archers.  These are plastic figures by Hat and the 15 chaps represent the bulk of the box contents (there are also 3 foot figures but I've not yet bothered with them).  I have treated them to my usual basic paint job with a tinted varnish finish.  They look rather better in the photos than in the 'flesh'.  Light cavalry archers are useful to have as they feature in many different armies.  I expect these fine fellows to be offered quite a bit of employment over the coming years.

Hi Tim,

Very nice indeed - I like the staggering on the bases. I have always liked the Parthians ever since I saw a really evocative picture of one in a school history book written by the fantastically named Plantagenet Somerset Fry. Have you got any of the Cataphracts?

All the best,

DC

'Staggering' is a good description of my approach to getting toys finished!
I do indeed have a box of Hat Cataphracts in stock - and another of the Zvezda cataphracts. And some old metal ones.... You get the idea.

Basic paint with tinted varnish over plastic figures.....sound a lot like mine!

The Hat figures are good value, - very little wasted in each packet.

Ronseal satin medium oak to be precise! Stand far enough back and they look pretty good.

Must be OK if it has your approval!

I'm an antique pine man myself, - quick drying of course.

Ah, quick drying varnish - the lazy Wargamers friend.

They are lovely figures - the first Hat figures I've painted, but not the last.

Nice toys, Tim ... Good choice.

The Army Painter works well doesn't it? (clever of you to call it Ronseal, though, and not look like you paid over the odds :o) ... )

Damn these 20mm plastic ancients are overturning my 15mm metal traditional thought patterns!

Nice job Tim, not my sort of thing you understand as they don't have guns and tracks, but its great to see lots of production streaming out from the Megablitz blog.

From a distance, yes. I think NZ is just about far enough.

Is that what the er, other product is? I've heard of AP but am of course too mean to even contemplate it's purchase.

Ad they fit in with proper 25s. So whats not to like?

It does seem to have been the year (or at least the last few months) of the pointy stick! More wheels and tracks coming soon, so don't panic.
