Box of delights

During a recent visit to Trebian's new 'Shedquarters' (I was in the area for a business meeting) mine host presented me with several boxes of 20mm WW2 toys.

So far I have sorted out some infantry - there are enough painted figures for a division each of Aussie and Jap infantry.

Score!

What are the two Cold War looking tanks in the top right of the last photo please?

The two 'mystery tanks' have been built using unknown crappy toy hulls and Airfix Grant turrets. Rumour has it that President Fred of Ph'tang has expressed an interest..... http://megablitzandmore.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/president-fred.html

What a lot of DUKWs!

Nice to see an Airfix 'bendy' Panther and Tiger too. They were banned from our school wargames club to avoid accelerating an already dangerous arms race.

We had a system for penalising the bendy plastic tanks too. My friend Lee had ten of the bendy Tigers!

Speaking of arms races - I'll always remamber the Sunday the boxing ring was left at the club against the wall. Absolutely irresistable. We had a little over 100 Russian tanks taking on 60-70 German.

I commanded a force comprising my entire Soviet AFV inventory at the time (9 T34s and 4 KVs) plus 16 other assault guns and what not against 16 Germans. mainly Panthers. At the end of the day, all but 3 of the Germans were smoking wrecks; I still had 16 AFVs under command.

One of the most fun and memorable war game days I ever had...

A splendid, inspiring and not completely unfamiliar story! Great stuff.

I see we both have acquired armor and support over the weekend, remarkable how
consistently alined our habits are...)

Looks to be a very nice assortment there!

You seem to have done rather better sorting out the new toys!

That comes from 20 years in and around the motor pool ...)

Good haul!

Well, that box yielded up some fun stuff. I can now add a Porsche turret Tiger II to my Henschel turret Roco Tiger IIs.

The Jagdtiger can join my collection of 'ridiculous German assault guns which rarely come out in a game'.

Are the toys easier than the real thing then?

Not bad eh?

I thought you'd like the heavy stuff!
