F-4D Skyray

Remember the Partizan plane purchase?  Thought you'd seen it all?  Alas, there is plenty still to come!
Introduced in 1956, this unusual looking beast served the USN and USMC until only 1964.
I think this is the old Airfix kit.  It's clean design means that there was very little to break - even the undercart is still intact!

Gorgeous.
They just don't design 'em like this anymore...
...mainly because they killed pilots in accidents I suspect.

Apparently the RN's SeaVixen was a deathtrap.

Yeah that one and the Cutlass were real death traps, the delta wing design just didn't work on short landings!

Looks pretty good for something bought by sketchy characters at car boot sales! This one's well beyond the scope of my limited cold war Aircraft knowledge, so I had to wikipedia it.

A triumph of form over function!

At least the Skyray was a looker - not so the ghastly Cutlass.

I too had to look it up - though I have dim memories of seeing it in the Airfix catalogue.
