Bother at the bridge - part 6

When we left the action the second wave of Warpact helis had clattered on to the table.  It can now be revealed that the LZ (chosen according to their pre-game plan) put them down just aft of the French reinforcements!  This could get messy.
Very messy.  The paras issue forth from the helis, accompanied by their Sagger platoon.
As the paras open fire the Mi-1 gunship swoops to suppress the AA battery.
This was the most impressive French artillery stonk.  It killed a figure from each stand.  And some French armoured cars....
Less impressive was this atrocity perpetrated by the same French gunners.  And just when that ambulance was likely to be needed elsewhere.
Endgame.  As the paras cleared away the French armour both sides agreed that the Comrades deserved their hard-fought victory.  Soon Warpact armour would be crossing the bridge.
There was no shame for the French though - who with paltry forces had nearly done for the paras.

I guess that paratroop operations immediately behind the enemy front line can be edgy affairs. Two outcomes are possible: the paras go under, or they nearly go under. i can think of several examples of both!

An interesting little action, Tim!

Aw man...Biker Dude should have gotten out of Dodge when he had the chance!

R.I.P. Biker Dude. I raise my cold can of Budweiser (the King of Beers) in your memory.

This was a charming game, Tim. Not my cup of tea, but I can see the attractiveness of it.

My choice of LZs proved to be fortuitous, although the manual section on conducting river crossings using air assault battalions did indcate that attacking both ends of the bridge was a good idea.

Routing the helicopters right over the French AA battery was not such a great idea:)

This game certainly hung on a knife edge for much of the time.

I think we can agree that there were surprises for both sides.
