Conference of Wargamers 2013 overview

COW is over for another year - and what a great weekend it was!  Proper 'Fuhrer weather' throughout the weekend, good company, excellent food and an astonishing variety of sessions.
More specific reports will follow on some sessions - both here and in the pages of Nugget, but here are a few photos as a taster.
Some of the attendees gathered on the patio at Knuston Hall on Friday evening.
This year's plenary game dealt - in a not altogether serious manner - with the conflict between Neanderthals
and Homo-Sapiens.  Here some of the players gather.  In appropriate attire.  Or lack of it...
COW is quite literally an English country house weekend!
The Indian invasion underway - Operation Vijay.
1/1200 scale French warships underway during Fletcher Pratt on Grass.
And you thought it was a drug-taking session.
Some of the 1/32 toys in Jim Wallman's Little Wars game.
Phil Steele's lovely representation of Bosworth using 1/32 toys.
An elite Fallschirmjager planning team. These were the poorest quality figures used in a game.

re that last picture, Tim ... I don't know about quality, but they do seem to be 'original' figures ... I think a lot of those ranges have been upgraded and re-issued over the years

Phil
(I now realise that I have been in no position to bemoan how wargame figures have gotten chunkier over the last few decades ... Hmmm ...) ...

They certainly look like quite old figures. Some of the detail is quite poor and no current manufacturer would dare offer such anatomical proportions. Some of the paintwork was a bit shoddy too....

Tim,
The look here is "classic" old school even though a lot of the gaming was on modern topics. Hope you had as much fun as it looked.

The photos offers but a taste of the weekend. Plenty more still to come.

Contrary to the previous comments, I would like to compliment you on the excellent rendition of British Army DPM on that combat jacket. How did you do it Tim?

Regards, Chris

I really can't remember - that particular figure was painted so long ago....
