Border Clash - part 2

We rejoin the action as the air is filled with the crash of Vulgarian boots as their army plods mechanically forward...
Fearless photographer Mat Bradic risks all for an action packed close up shot.
Following some good shooting by the Forbodian gunners and bitter hand to hand fighting, the Vulgarian ranks are somewhat depleted.  Here a senior officer appears to horsewhip his men back  into line.
The Vulgarian commander, General von Grossenpantz observes from a safe distance.
The general seems confident that his parade ground tactics will prevail.
Meanwhile Bradic has relocated to 'Gun Hill' in the company of Colonel Vulcanescu.
The Forbodian left has become hard pressed by another horde of vile Vulgarians.  Von Grossenpantz can be sen in the distance - no doubt smirking and twirling his moustache.
An overview of the field - clearly anything could happen!
A scratch force of Forbodian cavalry joins the Jagers to stem the tide of Vulgarian lancers.
An impressive close in photo of the action...
...taken, of course by the seemingly ever-present Bradic!
A crisis looms as the Forbodian cavalry are driven off...
But in the centre Col. Vulcanescu's brave lads have put the Vulgarians to flight.
The Vulgarian cavalry close in on 'Gun Hill' as Forbodian officers desperately rally cavalry and gunners.
As the Vulgarian ranks thin, von Grossenpantz appears near the fighting.
The deciding action - the two depleted Forbodian Infantry Battalions each needed to roll a '2' or less to pass a break test!
In the wake of the stunning (and frankly rather unexpected) Forbodian victory, the defeated Von Grossenpantz is captured.  He is seen here being led away by Brigadier Victorescu (right), escorted by a grinning Jager.
Mat Bradic captures the scene on film.

Interesting selection of models. Don't suppose you know who manufactures them do you?

Oh the shame of it... personally leading two half strength battalions into an assault on a defended village was never going to end well.

It was however a magnificent battle, a full Vulgarian infantry brigade plus the cavalry brigade assaulted 'gun hill' and you will note from the absence of guns they did actually manage to drive the gunners away. Those two pesky Forbodian infantry battalions took everything which was thrown at them though.

You will also note that after the Generals capture, his driver can be seen roaring away into the distance. Maybe there is something to this motor transport thing after all...

The Forbodians: HAT Zouaves, A Call To Arms Iron Brigade and Naloleonic British gunners, Timpo ACW Feds, Italeri ACW Cavalry and Mamelukes. The Vulgarians are mostly Armies in Plastic with ACTA Dragoons and Italeri Generals. The cars are old Airfix kits, guns from Britains, Crescent and BMC. Wagons are from a bag of crappy cowboys. King Boris and Mat Bradic are from Tradition of London.

Shares in 'Vulgarian Army Futures' have certainly slumped since the battle....

'Magnificent' sums it up rather well - especially the thrilling moment when the two Forbodian battalions unexpectedly failed to run away, thus bugg**ing up your cunning plan!

Faint strains of the Forbodian
national anthem "Hail, hail Forbodia, land of the somewhat free, and mostly brave....
(the above stolen from the Marx brothers classic movie Duck Soup )

I'm sure the Vulgarian army will
learn from this and train hard, buy a few spy's etc and will be back for more...

Very entertaining game ...well done lads!

You seem to have grasped the seriousness with which we approached the game!

Just wondering, are there any shots of the photographer who is following Bradic around, taking His picture?

Great Little Game.

(but this is why I have come to despise Morale tests, its when the other guy needs 1's and gets them and when my guys need anything but a 6, and get that!)

I understand that Bradic used another camera with a timer for the photos he appears in.

I know what you mean about morale tests - I usually share your inability to roll the appropriate number.

A well done you, all round, for a very fine game!

I look forward to seeing King Boris - in my sights - in the Spring!

Getting that many 54mm toys on a relatively small table certainly looked impressive.
King Boris asks me to pass on an old Forbodian saying. Roughly translated it goes "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough."

Actually some of the photo's in which Bradic appears were taken by his good friend and colleague Mr S.L.R. Pentax. Mr. Pentax is currently serving as court photographer to Crown Prince Orloff Svenhasselstein of Drakonia. No doubt in addition to his photographic duties, Pentax was also instructed to report on the military capabilities of both armies on the day. Informed sources indicate that Drakonia is currently contemplating a power play in the region following Prince Orloff's recent ascendance to the throne. This unexpected turn of events came after the death of King Borris who accidentally drowned in his bath. Two days later Prince Orloffs elder brother Prince Waldorf died in a tragic hunting accident, falling from his horse. Officers on Orloff's staff said the fall didn't actually kill the prince but as he hit the ground his pistol unexpectedly discharged, fatally hitting prince Waldorf in the back of the head. International observers have said that prince Orloff is a headstrong militarist and could pose a serious threat to stability in the region. Drakonian officials denied these accusations asking " Who is saying these things? Do you have names and addresses". . . . . . BEWARE FORBODIA!!!
