Kosher Cobras - part 2

Here are the completed AH-1 Cobras resplendent in (ancient and slightly flaky) Israeli decals. Not the greatest kits but I did mention they were at least cheap!

I picked up these ‘Mistercraft’ kits a while back. I remember being surprised at how cheap they were but having built them I understand why!  You can see for the volume of tape holding everything in place how dodgy is the parts fit. 

I largely ignored the kit markings as this pair is destined for Israeli service, so a rummage in the decal box is required.

I know it’s been a bit quite in terms of posts but I’ve not been completely idle. As well as more COW photos still to come there’s days two and three of the Golan Heights game, continuing from where we left off last year. 
Here are a couple of photos to be going on with.

Israeli Armoured Brigade for Little Cold Wars

I took these rather rushed photos of my LCW Israeli armoured bde as I was assembling it for last summer’s Gnuston Heights game. As always, please let me know if you’d like more details or better photos of anything.

Centurion tanks - mostly Dinky diecasts. M-48s to the left.

The whole ghastly mess. But then it was assembled pretty much from scratch in two months. From left: SP  Artillery btl, SRL btl, Reserve Tank btl (M-48 & M-51), two tank btls (Centurions), Engineers, Mech btl, AA, HQ, recce.

I have a real soft spot for tatty halftracks in Israeli colours. These are Solido diecasts.

M-51 Ishermans under construction (and bodging). These started off as Hobbyboss 1/48 M4A3E8 kits.

And with that, I will sign off for 2018!  Plenty more of this nonsense still to come in 2019.

Israeli mechanised infantry c.1973

I realised that having posted a report of the Gnuston Heights game (in  five parts, starting here), I still had some photos of the preparation which hadn't been posted.  My battalion of Israeli Mech Infantry was created with some figures of unknown make.  I'm not even sure what (if anything) they were meant to be but - to my dodgy eyes at least - they painted up looking reasonably like Israelis.

At the time I completed them I was having my drive re-paved so I had access to a pile of builder's sand for the photos.  Well you would, wouldn't you?

Here is the completed Ouragan, aloft over the er, floor.  I opted for a fairly basic green over sand finish and used the kit decals.  I like it.

While searching for suitable aircraft kits for the recent Golan Heights game I found this ancient Heller offering in one of the boxes.  Although retired from front line IAF service after the 1967 war I decided to build the thing anyway.

Not too many parts, very little flash and pretty good fit.

I have had far worse builds of late.  Mostly KP MiGs....

The title refers of course to today's musical link - Ouragan being French for Hurricane.  Take it away Neil....

Phinished Phantom

Here is the completed F-4, with my wooden floor standing in for the Sinai desert.  Stand by for some photos of this bird in action over Golan.

IAF Phantom - part 1

In urgent need of more Israeli aircraft for the Gnuston Heights (1973) game I dug out this aged Hasegawa kit.

Despite it’s age, it is a rather nice kit and went together quite well. In the background and sharing the production line is an Airfix Skyhawk.

(Another) Israeli Skyhawk

In preparation for the Gnuston Heights game next month my rather nice Skyhawk has been joined by another.  I'm not sure what make the original is - Fujimi perhaps - but this new model is the venerable and rather basic Airfix kit.  Whatever it's shortcomings though, it goes together well - not bad for a kit originally released in 1958!
