Israeli mechanised infantry c.1973

I realised that having posted a report of the Gnuston Heights game (in  five parts, starting here), I still had some photos of the preparation which hadn't been posted.  My battalion of Israeli Mech Infantry was created with some figures of unknown make.  I'm not even sure what (if anything) they were meant to be but - to my dodgy eyes at least - they painted up looking reasonably like Israelis.
At the time I completed them I was having my drive re-paved so I had access to a pile of builder's sand for the photos.  Well you would, wouldn't you?
The first company with still-wet varnish.
The trial platoon in the open air.
Speaking of air....

Superb stuff, and the sand looks the part.

'Tell the Project Manager we can't start the job.'
'Why?'
'The customer needs the sands. Apparently there's a war on?'

The truckload of sand offered great photo opportunities. But the new paving is not without gaming possibilities....

Paving implies hex or square based gaming

PS Working out the dimensions of a 1/48 scale Sherman which to a simple mind like mine does not seem too far off 1/56 scale when viewed across a lawn such as Knueston's

They certainly look the part Tim.

I have to say they are pretty good stand ins, and the paving stuff was a lucky bonus lol.

Various sized squares and rectangles. It has possibilities!

Aside from a bit of knife was very much a case of ‘conversion by paint’.

I originally wondered if the figures represented Japanese troops, so it took ages to teach them Hebrew....
