Quite a mixed bag to come from GHQ over the coming year. As usual I have restricted the list below to the 1/285 scale offerings, but new ship models (1/12400) are also planned.
So far it looks like being a cheap year for me as there is little on the list that I can't live without. I am especially pleased to see the Finns and I'll probably pick up some ADATs but I will remain immune to the temptations of the South African stuff as I am already well stocked with Scotia models. The KRAZ and new T-62s may also merit a look.

New releases schedule from GHQ
The highlight of the weekend's emails was from GHQ and told of their new release plans for the coming year. I have edited the list to just the 1/285th scale (6mm) items which I present below for your interest and edification.

Terrible Swiftly painted toys
Following on from my earlier post, I have now had the opportunity to take a few photos of my 2mm toys. I have 3 armies in this scale: dark blue, pale grey and a small red force. I figured that these colours would cover most nationalities of the mid to late 19th Century.
As mentioned previously, these figures are produced by Irregular Miniatures and are really rather nice. For pics of figures which haven't been compromised by my painting and photography have a look at: http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/
Painting, as one might expect in so small a scale was fairly basic, although thinking about it my painting of any scale is pretty basic... The figures come cast in strips for infantry (2-3 ranks in various lengths) and cavalry and guns are in pairs. I sprayed everything matt black and then drybrushed on the base colour (blue, grey or red). A smaller brush is used to paint a 'stripe' of flesh at face level. My Infantry and cavalry are based on 30x15mm card.
Here we see an heroic Confederate division of 3 brigades being assailed by two stronger Yankee divisions. All 3 have attached artillery deployed in support.
These are cavalry from my 'red' army.
I also have command (left) and army HQ (right) stands.

Finally, 'at the rear with the beer and the gear', wagon trains. The board (a felt faced cork notice board) is marked up in 7.5cm squares. The hills are cork tiles faced with felt. The 'woods' are green panscrubs sliced up and drybrushed. By inverting both board and hills (move the toys first!) we get 'desert' terrain!

Happy New Year - more snow and new Airfix!
So far 2010 hasn't produced any gaming activity and today I'm back at work! More snow fell here over the weekend but happily I've not had to travel anywhere.
I justify the inclusion of this photo as it was taken from the window of my wargames room!
Over the weekend I did some work on a silly game involving motorised 20mm scale tanks. Not for the first time the acquisition of some silly new toys is driving (literally) the development of a game. I'll post some pics when we've had a proper playtest.
I think the big news so far this year is the list of new (and re-)releases from Airfix: www.airfix.com/new-for-2010/
These include 2 versions of the Bedford QL (QLD & QLT) which appear to be developments of the QL in the Refuelling Set - finally Airfix makes the conversion the rest of us have been knocking out for 30+ years! Very welcome though. Nice to see that the prices of some kits includes a donation to 'Help for Heroes'.
