Overloon Museum - LARC-X

For the final part of my Overloon report I have saved this oversized outrage against sanity. Basically an amphibious barge, this was originally designed to support US beach landings and could carry up to 100 tons - I have seen a photo of one disgorging an M-60 MBT! 
Maximum speed on land when empty was a gentle 15mpg (24kph) which is probably fast enough for something 8 metres wide..  In the photo above your humble correspondent can be seen.  I am 6 feet 2 inches tall (1.88m).  This thing is very big!

Overloon Museum - Post-WW2

The museum includes a small selection pf post-WW2 vehicles, to which I of course was draw as a moth to a flame.  An appropriate starting point is this locally-produced YP-408 APC.  I have had a soft spot for these 8-wheeled wonders since seeing one on TV in the 1970s.  And it appears I'm not alone - as this rather nice website goes to show - link.

Overloon Museum - WW1 vehicles

With the Netherlands having been neutral during WW1, I wasn't expecting any representatives of that conflict.  There are two.
The Renault FT still bears the livery of it's post-1940 'management' and probably served locally in WW2.

This is - as I'm sure you know - an artillery tractor  or 'Trattice', made in Italy in 1916 by  Pavesi & Tolotti.

Overloon museum - WW2 Russian

The museum - located as it is in the eastern Netherlands, is mostly concerned with the 'local' bits of WW2.  Consequently the Soviet selection is understandably a bit thin.  Skulking in the woods outside the building is this T-34/85.

Back in Overloon it's time for the German WW2 kit to take centre stage.
