Romanian Emil - part 2

 Despite the lockdown this week I’ve actually been quite busy so having daubed the underside pale blue, it was only Friday evening before I got round to continuing the paintwork (above).

This morning I finished off the paintwork - such as it is - and hopefully I’ll be able to slap on the decals later on.

Romanian Emil - part 1

Searching for 1/72 air support for my 1/32 Romanians, I spotted in a pile of unbuilt plastic this Hobbyboss kit of the Bf-109E-3.  I remembered building a brace of Hobbyboss 109G a while back and that they had gone together very nicely. 

Confident that I had some crumbling Romanian decals, I opened the box for a look. Like the Gustav, it seemed a simple and well-moulded kit. But the best was yet to come.....

....yes indeed - as well as the Luftwaffe decals the kit also contained a Romanian set!

Crisp parts. And not too many of them!

15 minutes in and time to think about paint. 

Aeronavale Corsair part 3

I finally remembered to take some photos of the finished Corsair.  The yellow and black 'Suez stripes' are a bit ropey close up, as indeed are the hand painted tail stripes but the overall effect is quite striking.  Now I'd better write to game it's intended for....

With the kit built and base coated I faced up to,the tricky task of painting the yellow and black ‘invasion stripes’. Some thin masking tape came to the rescue here and the result was less appalling than it might have been.

As part of the Suez project - one of many I have on the back burner - I built this Hobbyboss Corsair kit.  It's as crisply moulded as I have come to expect from Hobbyboss and went together very well.

MiG-15 UTI Midget - part 2

The MiG is complete and resplendent in brown over sand camo and Egyptian markings.  The Midget is of course the two-seat trainer version of the MiG-15 'Fagot' and the enormous canopy makes it look very different.

I built this a few months ago for a game I have in mind. These little  Hobbyboss kits are a real delight to assemble. No filler, gaps or poorly fitting parts - just a quick build and a nice model. 

Even the box layout is neat and tidy.

Sea Hawk - part 4

It's complete at last!  Behold the mighty Sea Hawk resplendent in it's rather striking yellow & black Suez campaign stripes.

 

See - it even flies!

Sea Hawk - part 3

With the basic paintwork complete it's on now to the yellow and black Suez invasion stripes.  What could go wrong?

Having masked the outer border it was on with the yellow paint.  Many many coats thereof.

Trust me, it didn't look this good in the flesh.

With the yellow dry more masking was applied to facilitate the black stripes.  This didn't go entirely as planned and a fair bit of touching up was required.

Coming next - the 'Hawk in flight!

Sea Hawk - part 2

Calamity!  No grey spray paint.  No matter, I used white primer instead.  If anything this makes the thing look even more sleek.  Brushwork to follow when the undercoat dries.

Sea Hawk - part 1

There seemed at first to be rather a lot of parts but this illusion was due to them being in five separate packages!

 This version of the kit contains decals for West German Bundesmarine...

 ...and Indian Navy machines.

 The instructions were clear and the parts crisply moulded.

  Build progressed smoothly...

...and is now complete.  Hopefully I have some grey spray paint in the garage...

Mi-2URP 'Salamander' - part 3

The Comrades have now taken delivery of their latest toy - resplendent in the markings of the cheeriest workers' paradise of them all.

Once again I opted to paint over the windows and then paint them back in again.

This less conventional view shows off the 4 'Sagger' AT missiles and the single 23mm cannon.
