This
Funny Little Wars game was played at
The Old Colonial in Mirfield. It saw the army of the Teutonian Federation invading an eastern province (think Norfolk) of Tinland. The respective commanders were David Pinder and Julian Spilsbury. I had been in touch with David via the FLW Yahoo Group and on the strength of my (relatively) extensive experience of FLW he had kindly invited me to come and umpire the game, take photos and generally interfere with the proceedings. The photo above shows The Tinnish CO with his er, 'friend'. Nice work if you can get it.
Above and below: The 'country' as laid out the night before by David. And yes, those are my dodgy
gunboats lurking (under Teutonian flags) offshore...
|
More of Julian's toys waiting their turn on the table. Both armies were almost entirely built from metal (mostly vintage) toy soldiers. A joy to behold!
|
|
Teutonian artillery and machine guns prepare for action while a unit of lancers trots to the front. |
|
More Teutonian gunners |
|
The pointey-helmeted nasties even brought along some colonial troops. |
|
The Teutonial field hospital opens for business. |
|
Even as battle commence more troops were being landed. |
|
Staff work in action! Shortly after this the command bus got stuck in mud and didn't move for the rest of the game... |
|
Tinnish forces included several gaudily uniformed colonial contingents.... |
|
...while in contrast the Teutonians were increasingly reliant on infernal machinery. |
Coming next - a review of the Tinnish forces and battle commences!

Hi Tim,
If seeing figures like that on a wargames table does not inspire ANY wargamer worth his WD subscription then it is a very sad state of affairs indeed!
Superb stuff.
All the best,
DC

I was so inspired that I played a solo FLW game the following day!
It was a delight to see such an array of toys.
A feast for the eyes. It's like a Ross McFarlane game on steroids. Looking forward to more. It may just be jealousy on my part but I suspect the Tinnish CO of being a bit of a blunder. Mind you, I bet he doesn't suffer from a limp Lysander!
Lovely figures and great photos! Looking forward to seeing how the game pans out.
Best wishes, Brian
Ross on steroids? What a terrifying thought!
I understand from the CO's 'niece' that his Lysander is limp no more....
It was a real treat to be there Brian - plenty more eye candy still to come!
Thanks for posting Tim. Stuff like this gets the F.L.W juices flowing!
Jeff
It certainly does - I've thought of little else since the game!
Sorry, which one was the General? The one with the medals or the one with the chest?
I have hopes of getting into a FLW game in May, limited entry but I'll give it a shot. Not a BYOA but I'll haul a General along anyway.
Nice to see you paying such close attention Ross!
