Last week I had a message from a friend asking if I could provide a home for some old 54mm toy soldiers. To protect his anonymity we’ll call him ‘Alan P’. As luck had it, his daughter lives in the same village as my son so the mystery package was soon dropped off. Even better, my daughter in law was coming here this week anyway!
The difficult part was keeping my hands off of box until this evening!
The two layers of toys were in varying states of repair but there is plenty to like here.

"Inadequate quantities of legs" reminds me of the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore sketch. "I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is – neither have you."

That's quite a thought - I wonder what stories they could tell! Going forward they will have new tales of poor paintwork and incompetent leadership...

I've already had Corporal Dyson in action to remove big clumps of dust and muck!
One has to see past the wear and tear and remedial work required to see what a splendid band of soldiery these fellows can - and will - become. No doubt Sarn't Martinet will knock 'em into shape!
