As part of their briefings, I asked the players to 'spend' 100 points on resources and provided a list of possible items (though they were free to ask for pretty much anything). I stressed the need to achieve prestige as well as military victory. By their own admission, the French spent on 'stuff that was fun' while the Germans took a more sober approach. With the aid of some dice rolls and drawing of cards I resolved the effects.
Their shopping lists were as follows:
French German result
Super Heavy artillery 20 20 2 batteries each
Air superiority 25 20 2.5 / 2 fighter squadrons
Air Recce 10 20 1 /2 photo recce missions
Air bombing 10 1 bombing raid
AA guns 10 1 AAG battery
Visit from a dignitary 10 see below
Storm Troop detachment 10 2 companies
Field Telephone Detachment 10 telephone engineers
Field Hospital 10 more replacements
Pioneers 25 improved defences
The Kaiser (right) photographed while visiting a section of the front only 100km away.
Pioneers hard at work. Sadly these chaps are German as I don't have any suitable French figures.

Have really enjoyed the build up, and now the photos, from this largely 54mm game. Wonderful stuff, quality posting.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it - plenty more bloodshed still to come!
The Kaiser and his ride are gorgeous pieces Tim, well done! The super-heavy artillery piece is awesome, did you make it?

Kaiser & sidekick are Tradition, car is an ancient plastic kit. The enormous rail gun is an 'O' Gauge model by Lionel, repainted by me.
That is a nice extra to add to the scenario.
Cheers,
Pete.
I find it hard to trust the French assessment that they purchased things that were fun when they left both the telephone crew, a clearly fun choice, and a visit from a dignitary off of their shopping list!
Jalopy command vehicles are a must, aren't they? I have one such for my Kiivar and Ra'esharn armies, even though they purport to be of a later, technologically more advanced era. They are metal toys, somewhat underscale, but considerably overscale for the 1:72 figures I originally planned to use them with. I 'camoed' one, but decided to leave the other (red) as is.
I rather thought the choice of the hospital, visiting degnitary and telephone team were fun items! The heavy artillery and Stormtroopers less so, but 'Frothing' von Gow has to have his time in the sun.

It certainly added interest - and gave me an excuse to photograph some really weird stuff!

I’m only telling you what the French players said!

I’m in my sixth decade of playing with toy cars - no stopping now!
I was pleased with your ‘purchases’ as they gave me an excuse to field some rather under-used toys.
