Kakstadt Gap, July 1979 - part 4

Back in the wild East a clutch of British helicopters clattered through a hail of AA missiles and gunnery to land east of the village*
Meanwhile US infantry deployed to deal with some of the more tenacious border positions.
The three platoons disembarked from their M-113s, the CO shouted "OK guys, let's go" and then....nothing happened.  All three platoons failed their close assault tests!
The DDR heli successfully loosed off a Sagger at US tanks
Finally one of the US platoons was persuaded to attack and duly captured the by now weakly held bunker.

*At this point, as the rain was intensifying we packed up and retired indoors for tea and scones.  The fate of the British airborne assault is due to be determined at the Sheffield Club tomorrow.  Place your bets now...

I'm enjoying this: most entertaining. Rather wistfully, I think about my stalled Army Men project...

The company attack on the strongpoint reminds me of my little daughter, who used to tell stories whilst playing. Came a tense moment in her narrative:

'All of a sudden, nothing happened!'

That's the way it goes sometimes.

Very nice Tim- the helicopter group (what is the collective noun for a group of helicopters?) is super.

Cheers,

Pete.
