Sheffield Wargames Society - games day 2016

As usual, SWS held a longer (from 12 noon) meeting on the Wednesday between Christmas and New Year.  A free buffet meal was provided for members.  Around 20 of us showed up.
This time in addition to the games a terrain auction was held to rid the club of some of the less useful bits of terrain it owns.  This raised an astonishing £160 - three times as much as I'd hoped for!
Games included this Command & Colours outing, run by me...

...a vast 28mm classical game.  Bish is looking either thoughtful of baffled...
...while Dave seems to have a full time job just organising the toys!
A smaller pointy-stick era game was being played in the corner.  It seemed to be fun!
The gunpowder era was represented by this 18thC game.  While Russell points Paul (left) and Richard try to look as if they know what's happening, while Nick and Cy rush around trying to remember which sides they're on.

The Command & Colours game was followed by Martin's adaptation of Phil Sabin's Kartenspiel, and the day rounded off by playing Exploding Kittens. A game which John found in a charity shop for £1.
He didn't react well to my suggestion that he was overcharged by 99p....

Sounds like an excellent way to round off the year.

I've never played Exploding Kittens, but that may be the harshest review I've read of any game :)

I think that Tim was being very cruel. Exploding Kittens has now had three outings (which makes it better value for money than quite a lot of games I've bought over the years) and it is the only game I've come across which makes a meowing noise when the box is opened.

It was a very jolly day out

Actually not being a cat lover, the idea of exploding kittens isn't unattractive....

I suppose that at about 7p per player per game it was pretty good value!

Does it have expansion modules? Exploding Tigers perhaps?

All the best in 2017.

You may have spotted a gap in the market!

I'm not a fan of cats or kittens, so the idea of exploding kittens appeals. The meowing box less so, however.

Given all the dreadful goings on in 2016 Sheffield seems to have balanced out the karma with some really good games .. oh, exploding kittens .. not a family game I trust ;)

I've just played a game. It has Catermelons, hairy potato cats and Exploding Kittens. It is also quick. What's not to like?

Depends on the family I guess!

Aside from cats, not a lot!
