In need of some aircraft stands for the indoor Somme game I picked up some 3-foot lengths of 12mm dowel and sank them into holes drilled in squares of remarkably heavy plywood. The bases were then painted the same green I use for figure bases. As they were needed in a rush for the Somme game the aircraft were held on with blobs of blu-tac. More recently though, I decided to adopt a more robust solution. I drilled out the end of each stand and glued a short length of wire (cut from a wire coat hanger) into position.
The models are then drilled and slot on to the stand. No casualties so far!
I'll soon have more news on this old but new to me Bristol Fighter and it's many chums.

Tim,
Are the dowels 1.2mm or 12mm? They look as if they are the latter, which is why I ask.
All the best,
Bob

Quite right - 12mm
Have you seen the 1/32 scale stuff from Weta Workshops ?
Hi.
Sorry, my english is google translate
Flower shop sells thin approx. 3 - 4 mm wooden sticks, 50 -60 cm longs, with uses the support of the flowers inside the house, also many sorts stores, who sold to home miscellaneous stuff, these sticks are (mostly green) finish or clean wood

Your English is just fine! I use thin florists wire quite a lot. I bought the wooden dowel as I needed to act quickly and I'd had a business meeting very near the builders merchant.
Nice to see you have upgraded from blutack. Looks much more secure.
I usea similar system though I glue a hollow 'female' piece of tubing inside the fusealge.
Cheers,
Pete.
Very nice. I use magnetic ones from Corsec engineering, but yours I think are rather better suited to mass production.
For Weta Workshops google "Wingnut Wings" but have a life support machine on standby for your wallet!

Engineering vs bodging. I think we all know which side I'm on...

I spent about £6 on enough dowel for six stands. The plywood, wire and green paint was already in stock. I keep wondering about using magnets but basically I can't be arsed.

£80 a kit and in the wrong scale? I think I'll pass!
Neat economical scheme for your aircraft stands ( I've made some using camera tripod legs, so I could vary the height)

I've always assumed that camera tripods would be really expensive - but you've prompted me to have a quick look and I've found some startlingly cheap ones! I might order one just to try it.
