Following on from the dodgy plastic HMMWVs posted recently, we now both raise and lower the tone with more such vehicles. The rather respectable looking sand coloured HMMWV was found on eBay for about £5 and is a diecast by a company called Victoria. Aside from taking it out of te box it is untouched.
The other - well you may recell me buying it at the Birmingham Toy Soldier Show last year . It was rather cheaper at a defence-budget friendly £0.10... It was treated to the same olive over black paintwork as the other Hummers.
Worryingly I actually prefer the crappy plastic version - what do you think?

All hummers are good Tim. These are good too.
;)
The plastic one looks better indeed!
Greetings

I'm sick of tan as EVERYTHING here on Fort Hood is painted that way,
so I like the green one better....)
The green Humvee looks like it "means business": the tan Humvee could be ferrying holiday guests at a hotel! It would benefit from some "aggressive" gear.
But you can't argue the prices.
The green one has the mean looking armoured windows so gets my vote.
Cheers,
Pete.
A phenomenon in 'frugal modelling' is the extra pride one feels when one takes something that's a 'bit crap' and then you turn it into a finished model that looks half-way decent. I find this really enjoyable.
Not everyone can do this - it's easy to spend the money and buy a Dragon or Trumpeter kit with all the bells and whistles already in there for you. But to take a sow's ear and turn it into something approaching a cheap silk purse, that takes some doing!
I too prefer the plastic Humvee, because you've taken something that's 'disposable' and made it fit for purpose. Well done, Mr. G - you are flying the flag for frugal modellers everywhere! :)
You don't really need to ask my opinion do you Tim? Invest your savings on beer without delay this very Friday!
Regards, Chris.

I'll try to bear that in mind when I'm painting further US kit!
