Big Germans

These stout chaps are the first 'proper' 1/32 scale figures (as opposed to nasty 'army men' types) I have complete for the Little Cold Wars project.  They are of course the rather lovely figures from the Airfix Modern German Infantry set.  'Modern' in this case being the mid-1970s and 'German' as in from West Germany.  Takes you back, doesn't it?
Never being one to avoid shirking a challenge I opted for the pre-Flecktarn olive green uniform, though I couldn't resist adding the (rather oversized) national flags on the shoulders.
The 'traditional toy soldier' paintwork was topped off with a generous application of matt spray varnish - which dries with a rather pleasing slight sheen.
The figures are individually based on mdf bases from East Riding Miniatures. The larger (4-inch square) steel bases, each bearing four figures, represents a platoon in the game.

The assembled company (or kompanie?)

I'm wondering whether or not to go the 4-figure stand platoon in my Army Men Game. I have a added to several WW2 German figures that at present make up a rifle company of three platoons: 2 'assault' platoons of 2x12-man squads each, and a 'fire support' platoon of 1 12-man squad, plus a MMG squad with 2 MMG with 3-man teams.

But the platoon stand idea would give meat least 4 companies and a whole battalion. The megalomaniac in me is sorely tempted...

The megalomaniac is (in my experience) seldom wrong. Head on over to the Little Cold Wars Yahoo group and join in the madness.

Thanks for your kind words! Paul W and I are hoping to play a couple of test games (outdoors!) next week. I'll run one at Sheffield after Triples.

Yup, contemporary figures then

I seem to recall painred pkadtic sets having a pleasing, slight sheen of that sort back in the day, which would be decades before these fine chaps.

I'll do a 'how to' post on my basing in the next few weeks. And the camera will be busy during any games we manage!

Steady on - all this acclimation means I'll have to paint more!

I found 2 Pl's worth. I may even paint them up to send over as Fosters Rangers attached to Task Force Gow.
