Postings have been a bit thin recently as we've had a few days away in the Lake District. Mostly much-needed 'down time'.
Anyway, back to the (slightly alarmist) subject of this post. One day last week I was driving through Hull on my way to meet a client when I became aware that the other lane of the road contained a convoy of military vehicles. Nothing rare in that, but I didn't immediately recognise the trucks as being in British use. They turned out to be Unimogs (and a lone Iveco LMV)
A Belgian Army Unimog on a camping holiday. Not in Hull. |
As I began to pass the convoy I noticed that the number plates sported small Belgian flags. There were about 30 vehicles in all.
An alternative to my invasion theory is that they had been on an exercise at a Ministry of Defence establishment - probably the Driver training school at Leconfield in East Yorkshire.
So, exercise or invasion - what do you think?

Maybe turned the wrong way at Zeebrugge,,,
Three cheers for Belgium - some continental style in Yorkshire - how bizarre!
Invasion. Our clever Government has designated Hull as 'city of culture'and the Belgies have duly invaded to claim it as their own.
In the ensuing negotiations at the UN we will conceed sovereignty of Hull in exchange for a 51% stake in Belgium's trappist breweries.
Result! We got rid of Hull without bloodshed.
Invasion definitly!
Start mobilizing the TA battalions.

A simple navigational error eh? Typical Belgian trick...

It's a crazy plan - but it might just work....

That's certainly the way all the evidence points.

Your call-up papers are in the post...
Forget the invasion theories chaps.
What really impresses me is the showroom condition of the Mog and the rather dodgy tent peg hammering skills!

So while the rest of us are worrying about an invasion your contribution is camping hints? Most useful!
The question is if Belgium invades who would notice? ;-)

You could be right - there's been nothing in the newspapers.
Poirot will find the answer...
