Black Widow

This P-61 Black Widow was built from a Japanese pre-coloured Gashapon kit.
As I understand it, the P-61 saw some late war service in (or rather over) the Pacific, flying long range night fighter missions.  In black it certainly makes a striking model.

Very nice (and deadly looking) model. Quite the nose art too!

Always liked the Black Widow.

I saw, heard and indeed felt one fly over at an airshow once. A stunningly powerful beastie.

Not a plane I know much about, but I liked the look of the picture on Airfix box for this when I was a kid. It looked a very exciting plane.

...Very pleased that I did look up the P-61 and it's history (because of this post). Because I discovered that one of my favourite planes - the Beaufighter - was used by the USAAF and was the night fighter that the P61 replaced (because not enough Mosquitos were available apparently). You learn something new every day!

I was confident that someone would spot the nose art?

I remember it from the Airfix catalogue way back when - but could never afford one!

It certainly looks like a noisy thing.

Cor I remember seeing a kit like this as a boy and thought cool ... too cool for my modeling skills at the time .. it does look a frightening beast .. something about it makes it look so wicked

I checked in an old Airfix catalogue and can now reveal that their version of the P-61 was a Series 4 kit! No wonder none of us had it - who could afford such luxuries? The only S4 kit I remember having was the He111. No Dakota, F-111, Wellington etc...
