Nakajima B5N 'Kate' - part 1

While supposedly sorting out some kits yesterday I found myself (inevitably) sidetracked by building a couple.  That's not quite as bad as it sounds as the kits in question were of the pre-painted Japanese variety.
To balance out the recent completion of Nates and Sonias for the Army, I decided to build some early WW2 Naval aircraft.  Perhaps January is 'Naval Aircraft Month'....

First up were a pair of F-Toys 'Kates' - the component parts of a single kit look like this:
The build was a painless process and the models were left to dry overnight.  I'll post photos of the completed models soon.
Coming soon - Aichi D3A 'Val'.

Had the old Airfix 1/72nd Diorama
of Hickom Field (Pearl Harbor)of a Val with some troops scurrying about
on the vacuformed runway, brings back found memories.

Interestingly many years later I was
stationed at Schofield BKS Hi, in the same building (I Quad) as my grandfather stayed in before shipping out to fight in the Pacific.

Yes he went on to do occupation duty in Japan in fact. More interesting is that he left Germany as he put it on the business end of a Kar98 in 1938 came to the states and joined the US army fought across the Pacific, and told me a few neat stories of how encountered German speaking natives on various islands
that used to be German possessions before WWI.

And I've been telling Don to do a memorial to his grandfather for years...I've heard allot of the stories and they are fascinating.
