On to Washington! - Gettysburg part 5

We reassembled for day two of the game and deployed the toys after taking into account the limited movement which had been allowed overnight.
I had taken the opportunity to reinforce the Confederate left flank.  So there we were, poised to assault the strong Yankee position on the ridge.  No pressure then.
However, when we looked up, the enemy were in full flight!
Hardly daring to believe our luck, a general advance was ordered.
Artillery fire resumed while back in Gettysburg the medical facilities continued their grisly work.
An early Confederate success on day 2 was a hit on an enemy limber.  This exploded, detonating a second limber, disabling two guns and killing their crews!  This seemed to (understandably) lower morale in the Yankee HQ.
Soon Reb troops had crested the ridge and reached the house which had been Meade's HQ...
...only to find that the Bluebelly hooligans had set it alight!
We pressed on (and in the excitement the photography suffered).  Sadly Brian C wasn't able to make day two, but we fully expected him to burst forth from a hiding place in the shed and rescue the Yankee's fortunes!  Happily it wasn't to be...
For form's sake the CSA HQ ordered an infantry assault on the Yankee final position.  This was an unpleasant experience and we decided to keep our distance and pound the enemy into submission with our still plentiful artillery.  It was agreed at this point to pack up.
As we all know, however, Lee was then free to march on a now undefended Washington, arriving just after Lincoln took ship and fled to see refuge in the Old World.  Full recognition of the Confederate States of America soon followed from Great Britain, France, Prussia and of course Forbodia.
An absolutely splendid game, this has given us an appetite for big multi-player games.  I am hoping to run an ACW game in Sheffield next year.  And then there's the Tannenberg idea....
Generals Longstreet and Lee celebrate their victory with some flag waving.

A surprise ending! Nice. Must have been the sight of all those stripy pants coming at them.

Congratulations all around but esp to the victors and to the general for his clever plan.

It was a great game. Lee and Longstreet met for the first time a couple of hours before it began but we managed to form a battle-winning partnership!

Stirring stuff!

I wonder if Lincoln would have sought refuge in what was - after all - a pretty hostile Europe. Perhaps some off-shore refuge i the Caribbean or in South America, with the formation of a New Union (in a similar way to how Taiwan was founded)?

The thought of you bursting forth from the shed kept us entertained (and a little worried) during your absence!

If there's stirring to be done I'm your man....

At least it might keep him out of theatres.....
