Gardes-Mobiles

A recent re-reading of Mr Horne's book on the siege(s) of Paris prompted a slightly different paint job for some of my BMC ACW figures.  The addition of red cuffs and trouser stripes to their overall blue uniforms transformed them (in poor light) into French Gardes-Mobiles for 1870/71.  More pics when they're finished.

Does anyone make Prussians in plastic?

You might go a little further with this, depending upon how the Republican armies were uniformed. I'm pretty sure they weren't as flash as the recently defeated Imperialists were, and the Republicans did manage to score a couple of successes against the Prussians.

For enemy, you might consider not so much the Prussians, as one of the other German States, depending upon whether they used the kepi, or some similar head gear. The Saxons, I think, might have favoured a cap similar in shape to a modern army officer's cap, including a peak. Would such a modification be feasible using BMC ACW figures?

Armies in Plastic do fine sets of pointy helmeted Prussian infantry and Uhlans.

Even without head swaps a vast range of figures can be obtained from existing ranges, so most aspects of the FPW and Commune are pretty do-able in 54mm.

Really like that idea...

... FLW for the FPW... must resist that idea.

Cheers,

Pete.
