Triples 2012 – part 1 – Overview and games

Just recovering from a busy weekend at Triples!  After popping in on Friday afternoon to help (not very much )with the setup, I was there again at 0720 on Saturday and 0820 on Sunday.
As we had decent numbers in the WD crew (our game only requires a single ‘umpire’), I took the time to have a wander round the other games and chatted to a number of presenters.  There were a number of interesting and visually impressive games present – all of which had clearly involved expenditure on toys of rather more than the £10 required by Rollbahn Ost!  Below are my photos of a few of the games present - my apologies if the captions are inadequate (or wrong!).
Some time was also spent shopping, and a number of bargains were secured!  More on these in a further post.
Daleks collecting for charity - "You will donate..."
The stout chaps running the British Legion game tuck into a healthy breakfast.  The canteen was fresh out of salads....
Rotherham Wargames Club lost in Africa - a nice looking 20mm scale game.
So that's where all the BAOR surplus ended up...
...and some Soviet 'aid'....
A 28mm 1930s British civil war game - the rather striking aircraft had cost £1.00 each!  Respect.
The rather lovely 1/600 scale Falklands game.
The Argie Mirage has just missed HMS Fearless...
...and is about to get a seeing to from these Harriers!
Steve Allen explains his WW1 game...
...complete with 1/35 scale tanks!
The Society of Ancients (crewed by Phil, Chris and Will) stand featured this striking game which used 30mm flats from the collection of the late Tony Bath.
A closeup of the 'flat' chariots.  Just lovely.
This large and 'retro' 18th Century game used 40mm figures cast from Prince August moulds.
That's a lot of home casting!
The largest table was home to this 28mm game based on the 1914 battle of Mons
Details included this party of fleeing refugees
Proper soldiers!
Richard Clarke (left) of 2 Fat Lardies shows off a Medieval game
A 20mm Vietnam game included this supply base.
A 20mm game set in Iraq.

Saw you in the distance, but didn't get chance to chat as we had the converse problem on the L&L stand - too few of us because of unplanned events.

Phew! Looks like you had a good time Tim.

The Falklands game looks a winner!

Not to sure on 1/35 scale gaming though.

Thanks for the pics. Great to see games which are attractive yet practical looking and not over the top.

I recall seeing you (again at a distance) early on Saturday - but you always seemed to be engrossed with your game! We'll aim to have a chat next year then...

It was a splendid (if busy) weekend! I know what you mean about the 1/35 game - it should have been 1/32.

Pics of Rollbahn still to come. Possibly the most 'practical' game there!
