that is a wierd looking bird!

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean - the proportions aren't quite right.
I always lusted after the Matchbox kit of this strange looking bird.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem a little strange now to have such a huge aircraft as a light bomber.
Nice work Wing Commander.
I disagree with the previous learned Gentlemen's comments. Any remarks about "a face that only a mother could love" regarding this modern marvel of streamlined engineering should be immediately disregarded :O)
ReplyDeleteThe Wellesley's double bubble cockpits, blended cowling and advanced geodesic duraluminium airframe are the way forward. With this design it should be possible to fly 1201 miles at 223 mph!
Kind regards, Chris
Stuh...range! Almost as weird ad that Blohm and Voss recon aircraft...
ReplyDeleteYou have to love the odd ducks!
ReplyDeleteBut I gotta ask - why do you have this oddity? Were you planning an East Africa campaign at some point. It had me thinking of the pictures in Wargames Illustrated (way back in the day) of the Italian conquest of Somaliland (put on by Rapid Fire authors' if my memory is true).
Cheers

Yes, I have gamed the East African air war. It is a fascinating campaign fought with a motley collection of obsolete aircraft. You should see my squadron of SAAF Ju86s.
ReplyDeleteThe Wellesley is an excellent aircraft (twice the bombload of a Battle!)

ReplyDeleteI remember the Matchbox kit appearing - but never felt the need to own one...
Chris Kemp
ReplyDeleteA challenging scratchbuild in 1/144 eh Chris?
Archduke Piccolo
ReplyDeleteThat'd be the splendid Bv141. Another scratchbuilding challenge....
Peter Douglas
ReplyDeleteHell, why not?

ReplyDeleteThese other chaps don't understand do they? Apart from CK - and he's beyond help.
Tim
ReplyDeleteI get it alright!! I'm just hoping that no one otices some of the wierd stuff I collect!!
Cheers PD

ReplyDeleteYou're among friends Peter...
Did someone spill coffee on a single seat fighter design and two pages blended into one?
ReplyDeleteWeird .. but compelling!
Geordie
ReplyDeleteI think that's a fair question!
