Funny Little Wars game report - part 2

We rejoin the action as King Boris orders the mountain gun battery to open up on the calamitous kraut cannon.
Brave King B directs operations from his rather splendid Rolls Royce motor car.  The more minimalist Prussian general had to walk as Martin is still wrestling with the Mercedes kit he acquired from a dubious source.

In the greatest moment of the game, the Forbodian gunners scored a direct hit on one of Martin's limbers which spectacularly blew up...
...and was sufficiently close to the other limber that it went up too, killing all but one of the gunners!  Hurrah!
Meanwhile the Forbodian cavalry were about to read the rules about charging formed infantry.
The Prussian guns again.  And yes, I am still gloating.
The Brigadier surveys the damage.  Photo and arrangement of dead horse by Steve.
The cavalry takes fire as they charge in - and inflict depressingly little damage on the pointy-hats.
Meanwhile the Prussian left advances...

...still in a nice neat line...
...from whichever side you view it.
Members of the Forbodian staff anxiously view the field of battle....from another Rolls Royce.
The Jagers close ranks and prepare to finish what the cavalry started.
Bodies of plastic but hearts of steel!
On the Forbodian right, the enemy continues to advance...
...while the Foresters lay down rifle fire from the woods.
Another view of the dead gunners.  Sorry - couldn't resist!
The Forbodian cavalry reform.  By now the Jagers had charged the pointy-hats and been pretty well wiped out in doing so.
As King Boris watches from a hilltop, his cavalry repulse their opposite numbers who had been getting dangerously close to the gun battery.  At this point, with a weak right, a stalemated left and no guns or cavalry, the pointy helmets decided it was time to head home, leaving the victorious Forbodians in possession of the field.  A great first 'proper' FLW game, this took about two hours from setting up to being packed away.

Victorious!? I seem to recall an honourable draw was declared.

I shall now stomp off twirling my moustache....

  3. It looks like an excellent game. I especially liked the view of King Boris in his car.
As for cavalry charges you might find a game outside gives an opportunity for a flank or rear charge where the outcome could be more on the side of the cavalry.
I look forward to more battle reports.

I'm only quoting what was in the Forbodian newspapers, but yes, as I recall both armies (and players!) were too knackered to continue.

Both the cars are old Airfix kits - see my earlier post at http://megablitzandmore.blogspot.com/2011/03/motor-cars-for-funny-little-wars.html
King Boris has a 1911 Rolls Royce, his staff an earlier 1905 model.

There wasn't really enough room for cavalry but we wanted to try things out. The garden isn't really an option in December!

It did all look pretty good - and the game provided plenty of laughs.

I'm hoping not! Anyway, i think it is just the helmets which are pointy, not the heads too. I'll check next time Martin takes off his hat....

I'm sure there'll be a few more games during 2012.

The lighting in the room helped the quality of the photos quite considerably.

  16. Hi Tim,

Sultan Abdul the Unprincipled sends his warmest congratulations to King Boris and the gallant Forbodian army.

    Just before he invades....;-)

    All the best,

There is an old Forbodian saying. Roughly translated it goes "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough.".

  18. Dear Tim,

You set up, ran, enjoyed, and reported a "Funny Little Wars" game just about perfectly--by atmosphere and fun as well.

I've had the same "problem" with my own limbers three times now, and once not only did the battery achieve escape velocity, but it took 19 of 20 Guard Infantry at the same time. It rained bearskins for two days, two nights, and 14 hours on Sunday.

In the Spring, I hope you can finally move out to the yard, and then you can truly put your collective cavalry to their proper use!

Please do this again soon, and report as well for the rest of us.

Thanks Patrick - I'm glad the reports managed to convey the fun we had. They'll be no outdoor games in my garden as aside from it being quite small, there is the issue of the chickens of mass destruction! I'm sure there will be more table games though, and possibly indoor 'floor games' too. I refer you to the posts on the Fletcher Pratt game. I'm sure HGW would approve!

  22. Just landed on your blog Tim, and find the FLW and Forbodian posts absolutely cracking and highly inspirational. I have also just seen I am your hundreth follower so do I get a Forbodian Legion of Honour? Well done anyhow and I look forward to future posts
    cheers

Welcome! I'll have a word with King Boris about a suitable award - he is busy at the moment handing round medals after another battle earlier this evening.
