Focusing on the Deetail 2

Having made quite a reasonable job of colour matching with my US Deetail figures, I tried it with the beastly Boche. This was a bit trickier but I think I've managed to get close enough. By mixing (Vallejo) 2 parts 972 Light Green Blue with 1 part 890 Reflective Green I came up with the colour in the photos. I've included a couple or real Deetail figures for comparison purposes.
The figures are a few I had lying about - literally in the case of the Airfix MG loader.

  1. That looks as close enough to me.

    Cheers,

Close enough is well, close enough.

You can't argue with that sort of accolade!

  5. Tim,

I think that the colour match is excellent. Are you going to repaint the Deetail bases to match the colour used on your new figures?

    All the best,

    Bob

  6. Gah! That's where he is. I bought a box of Airfix which didn't have the loader. Now I know :-). Good job on the matching. Every military historian knows this is the color that Germans wore (when they weren't really the baddies and wore black).

  7. Additional to my flippant comment. I applaud your commitment to the toy soldier ideal. I spent too many years trying to get the right hue for models, but these ar perfect.

  8. These look great.
Bringing back a lot of memories for me too. I had so many of these when I was a kid...all gone now unfortunately, though I still have my Airfix 54mm.

Steady on! No I'll leave the Deetail bases as God and Britains intended.

I knew the figure in question looked a bit shifty - now we know why. Glad you approve of the colour. It's wildly inaccurate but somehow looks right!

The Deetail figures are pretty easy and cheap to find now - or you could repaint your Airfix chaps like mine.
