My star purchase at the recent
Birmingham Toy Soldier Show was this batch of Starlux French sailors. You might remember I picked up a
quartet of similar figures last year so I was delighted to find these.
As well as the more usual musicians there are officers, deck guards, signallers and this chap carrying a large shell.
The several musicians have considerable panache!
cool set of figs, got any Foreign Legion Tim?
ReplyDeleteListen very carefully, I shall say dis only once - Les marins sont magnifies.
ReplyDeleteSteve.
Beautiful work on "Les matelots"...
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteI was tempted to write 'Bonjour matelot' ... so I did!
Are you going to acquire a French warship (or two) for them to crew?
All the best,
Bob
Great figures Tim. That bloke with the shell must be what we used to call "Muscle Bosun"!!! 4.5 shells weigh 65 lbs in the old money and they definitely could not be carried around like that! Cartridge cases, yes but the Captain of the Gun or Loading Bay would kick your butt!!

ReplyDeleteI do have some FL - they are the recent versions of the old Britains Deetail figures. If I remember where they are I'll ask them to pose for a photo.
Stephen Thomas
ReplyDeleteThey are rather nice.
Phil
ReplyDeleteAll Starlux's work - all I've done is base them!
Bob Cordery
ReplyDeleteBonjour - or rather bonsoir - to you too. I was planning simply to make a couple of french flags for my FLW gunboats...
Col
ReplyDeleteSo I should give him at least a +1 in hand to hand combat then?
I have a few similar figures - obvious sailor types - that will become gunners on shore batteries and in the field. This for my Army Men project.

ReplyDeleteShouldn't that be your Navy Men project?
Well, having got these guys, they have to be employed somewhere. I am enacting that as most of the Kiivar Navy has been lost in the early weeks of the war, naval personnel who had been on shore duty or leave at the time will be employed ashore. I suppose If I could get hold of a couple of Britains 4.7-inch naval guns it would "lend verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative..."

ReplyDeleteYou definitely need a 4.7! I have several and none cost more then £10.
