Tidying up

As previously mentioned, I have been putting things straight following a period of domestic disruption caused by building and decorating work.  One of the items I had to move was this 200x80cm bookcase - one of IKEA's finest - which lives on the landing outside my toy room door.  Clearly I had to empty it first - which revealed just how much stuff it held!  Before I re-stocked it therefore, I decided to thin out the contents a bit and have it looking a bit neater than before.
It is now much tidier - but then it was pretty bad before.
The shelves hold mostly wargaming and modelling books.
The wargames books - the oldest acquired in the mid-'70s, the newest a couple of weeks ago.
I have a full set of these splendid little Airfix books.  They took many years to accumulate.
The lower shelves house various wargames rules, boxed games and these ring
binders which contain various articles archived from magazines.

  1. Impressive - inspirational, in fact. Not least I am impressed by the IKEA bookcase - last time I needed one, I was horrified to see that they had stopped production of the 80cm wide "Billy" units and were only doing the 60cm - no good to me, man.

Not sure how IKEA do this - they vary the range from time to time, and always in a direction which screws me up. For example, they sometimes discontinue one of the veneer finishes (the one which matches all my other bookcases) and then reintroduce it once I've lost interest.

I used to take it personally, but now that I understand that they do it on purpose to spite me I just shrug and accept it.

    Shrug. There i go again

I always wondered who IKEA were trying to annoy when they changed stuff - now I know! That said, the 80cm wide Billy is still listed on their website...
I hardly know how to tell you that I recently binned a (very scruffy) Billy....

  3. Enjoyable browse through your bookshelves.
I remember the old airfix annuals with great affection.

  4. Obviously IKEA have developed a creative marketing strategy to ensure they don't have to sell too many. You can lose money that way. I was impressed by the number of classics contained in the 3rd picture...

  6. The first pic reminds me of the giant grain silo at Stalingrad!

Good progress and a trip down memory lane in the book department.

  7. Hi Tim,

All of my storage in the man cave comes from Ikea from the range called Ivar. You can units with varying depths so I use 30cm for the bookshelves and 50cm for everything else.

Great collection of Airfix books which gave me a few memories to ponder from 'back in the day'!

    All the best,

    DC

  8. Inspirational Tim! I try and tidy up my "Man Cave" but its like the farmer who goes to kill the chicken for dinner. Axe needs sharpening, needs oil for grindstone. hops in car, tyre is flat etc. etc. etc!

I suspect the tidiness will erode over (a very short) time...

There were certainly a few casualties among the garrison during the recent work!

Most of my toys live on IVAR racking too. Great minds eh? Or maybe it was cheap.....
