More Rebs

Recently rolled of the production line is this unit of 1/32 scale Confederates.  These plastic figures are by are BMC - a manufacturer often derided for the poor detail on their figures.  I rather like them, however, as I favour a 'toy soldier' style finish and find some newer figures intimidatingly well detailed! I replaced the standard bearer's floppy pole (ooh-er missus!) with brass rod.  The flag is removeable so these chaps can serve other masters if required.  As usual they were based on 3x4cm pieces of mdf and finished off with a coat of Ronseal outdoor varnish.

  3. Err Tim

    Isn't the flag upside down?

    PS

I have a chum who intentionally paints a deliberate error in every unit he does, just to annoy the rivet counters.

  4. Seeing Jim Duncan's query, I thought the flag was upside down, myself. But I did some checking. It seems that in no design were the stars always placed 'point up'. E.g. in the Army of Northern Virginia, the flag of 17th Miss had all the stars 'point down'; 18th Ga, the stars were placed 'point up'; 3rd Ark, the stars were placed (by the look) alternately point up and point down, with the centre star replaced by a cartouche containing the legend '3rdArk'. The more traditionally known Beauregard design was equally variable.

So you can't go wrong really. I like the deliberate mistake idea, though. I am reminded of Middle Eastern carpet makers, who will always include a flaw in their product as an act of humility. Annoying 'rivet counters' seems as noble a motive.

Sadly no - mine came from the US. I can spare you a couple of the 18thC mortars though.....

My toys contain so many errors that the rivet counters have given up on me!

Why should I do any research while I've got you around? Thanks for the vindication of my ham fisted bodgery,

  10. Thank you Tim, but I'll pass. Mine have arrived from Germany at last.

I think I may have some BMC figures lying around somewhere. I might give you a shout if I find 'em.
