Not an aircraft I am particularly au fait with, the '138 is possibly unique in having two 3-bladed props and one 4-bladed, although given that it was designed by Dr Richard Vogt who also brought us the asymmetric BV-141 this was a far from forgone conclusion!
More on the BV-138 on this astonishing website.
Big it may be but the clog is dwarfed by my Kawanishi H6K 'Mavis'. More on that soon.
You have to admire any plane that has the capability of shooting itself down.
ReplyDeleteLost for words oN both of these ;)

:)
Another fine addition to your stable Tim. It would be interesting to see you place this in a game.
ReplyDeleteCool, another couple I've never seen or heard of
ReplyDeleteI thought the BV141 was weird. But this chappy is so cool - I gotta have one in 1:72 scale for my Raesharn Airforce...
ReplyDeleteSAROE
ReplyDeleteIt does save troubling the enemy.
Geordie
ReplyDeleteIt is a weird old thing.

ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a challenge - but I already have a (vague) plan!

ReplyDeleteNice to hear I'm providing education!

ReplyDeleteI understand there is a 1/72 kit available!
My research indicates this aircraft was actually developed from a sketch by Leonard of Quirm.

ReplyDeleteWho?
You've never read Terry Pratchett's Discworld books ?

ReplyDeleteAs a writer TP really doesn't do it for me.
Och to TP!
ReplyDeleteTim: try TP again. I started 4 Discworld novels before I finished one, but now I'm a fan. I recommend the stories featuring Sam Vimes, Commander of the City Watch, Duke of Ankh, married to the wealthiest woman in Ankh-Morpork, cynical bastard and working class hero.
ReplyDeleteProbably my favorite is "Night watch", though they're all good.
Leonardo da Quirm is Leonard's real monicker, I believe, and that might give you the clue to his identity. He is kept in happy freedom by Lord Vetinari in a prison of the Patrician's own devising...
The '138 could happily stand in for the Do 24 in the Mediterranean, as no-one makes a '24 as far as I am aware. Does that cinch North Africa as your next Megablitz outing?
ReplyDeleteRegards, Chris.

ReplyDeleteNorth Africa is still a possibility but its not the current front runner....
