This Focke Wulf 190D is probably the best built of the kits which make up my Winter Aircraft Project. Credit where it's due - it was built five years ago by my stepson Louis under only light supervision from your humble correspondent.
The tooling for this kit dates from 1979 - and it being so 'new' might help explain why I never had it before (I had the Matchbox Fw-190A) - and the parts fit is pretty good.
By the time I decided to resurrect it the prop and spinner had gone walkabout - the present spinner was sourced from the spares box. Some filler was used to close up panel gaps and then it was on to the paintwork.
The colour scheme was chosen with my usual cavalier disregard for accuracy - hence the fetching blue wingtips and rudder. The decals were from the selection originally supplied with the kit.
Nice job on the paint work. Have you settled on a set of air fighting rules yet?
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff! I saw a genuine (earlier) article flying in the weekend - I didn't realise it had such a growl to it!
ReplyDeleteI like! Who cares about accuracy man!

ReplyDeleteI'm planning to resurrect a very simple set I saw in a Don Featherstone book. I'll write it up when (and if) I manage to convince prople to play it...

ReplyDeleteI suspect the original might have been a rather more challenging build....

ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit!
I think that it looks rather splendid - a sort of "flypast" makeover for Goerings birthday? Incidentally you have persuaded me to unearth some previously unloved toys - I had suffered from a chum who was a bit of a rivet counter and decal fascist - but I'm preferring your laissex faire approach to the hegemony of historical dogma.. or is it dogfight. More power to your elbow and brush!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words Ken. Refurbing these old models has been an interesting and generally rather enjoyable process. So much so that I currently have three 'new builds' on the go....
Haza for fun over authenticity!
