More 20mm Sovs now. The Katyusha on Studebaker chassis is a Russian plastic kit. It was a truly horrible thing to build. I wish I could remember the maker so I could warn you against it! The launcher rails are the best bits but even they needed a deal of straightening so they'd fit and then bracing with steel wire. The cab? Let's not go there. If the outsize red star distracts the viewer from the model's shortcomings that's no bad thing!
The ammo carrier is a good old Airfix Opel - now under new management!
It reminds me that I had a home made Katyusha on the go for a while (based on a Pegasus GMC truck), I must have a go at completing that one.

ReplyDeleteMy first Katyusha was home made - on a ROCO GMC chassis. It's still in service.
It came out pretty good, the painful builds serve you longer lol.
ReplyDeleteI have a home made BM 21 I just finished I'll post some photos.
Standard Katyusha conversion round my way was based on the RAF refuelling set.
ReplyDeleteThe real life Katyusha's I have seen were all crap builds as well; bent rails, missing rails, wire to hold bits on and doors fallen off.

ReplyDeleteI know your pain.. on the one hand the UM models I've done (Russian 76mm guns and Su76) have been superb. On the other hand the single 122mm howitzer I've been working on (PST) is appalling.. 3 weeks, and I'm still messing around with the damned thing.
Kind regards
