As part of my tidying up process after the recent 'Krisis at Kharkov' game (see many earlier posts...), I took the opportunity to sort out my 20mm Soviets. The photo above shows some of the toys scattered across my table as I sort units (tank, mechanised and artillery corps) into boxes.
I also tinkered with the Rifle Corps boxes and expanded most to four divisions each, along with artillery, AT and engineer units. Not all of these assets will neccessarily be deployed in games.
One of the corps so expanded was the Wellingrad Militia Rifle Corps - rewarded as it fought well during the Kharkov operation.
Wow! (For once lost for words - you'll be happy about that!) :)

ReplyDeleteThat's not like you!
Hey Stephen you should look back through his earlier posts at his
ReplyDeleteSoviet tank glory shot! What were there over 60 Tim?
Rewards can be fleeting and punishment harsh on the front. A guards banner perhaps?
ReplyDeleteTim,
ReplyDeleteI do like the look of the Wellingrad Militia Rifle Corps! It is the sort of Megablitz unit that almost anyone could put together relatively easily ... and cheaply!
All the best,
Bob

ReplyDelete60? How dare you sir! There were 75 - http://megablitzandmore.blogspot.co.uk/2011/07/14th-of-july-challenge.html

ReplyDeleteI don't think there were many survivors of the original corps - it was struck from the SW Front orbat during the game...

ReplyDeleteThe 'cheapest unit challenge'. I like it!
Oh, what an awful job to have to do! Sorting out the figures after a big game. Nice looking collection

ReplyDeleteStrictly speaking I didn't have to do it, as the toys had returned home in more for less the same boxes they went to Shrivenham in. I was just fire with enthusiasm in the aftermath of the game. That'll teach me!

ReplyDeleteTo borrow a phrase from 'Zulu', 'box files sir, thousands of 'em!'. Well dozens.
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who keeps slowly sorting Soviets :O)
ReplyDeleteThey look very impressive laid out like that.
Regards, Chris
The trouble with 'cheap' Soviet rifle corps is that one just isn't enough.
ReplyDeleteI've spent the weekend sorting through my Triples shopping accident and discovered that I seem to have 200+ Russians to paint. At least they are all stuck together now and based, off to the garage for undercoating shortly.

ReplyDeleteMine seem to get a major reorganisation every 2-3 years. A bit like the real thing in fact. Off to shoot more generals now....

ReplyDeleteThe correct quantity of soviets to own is 'lots'. Or to put it another way, always more than you have currently. I had a spray painting session last weekend.....
