Over the past week I have managed to make some modest progress with the troops for my Funny Little Wars Naval Brigade. These stout lads are all 54mm Armies in Plastic figures and it was to support them that I built the gunboats which featured here recently.
As well as the now usual spray undercoat, I then sprayed the figures with a gloss blue - so far it looks OK.
I will post more pics when this battalion is finished. The full brigade will consist of two such battalions, together with guns and staff.
Hearts of Oak are our ships!
ReplyDeletePlastic Tars are our men!
We'll always be ready, steady boys, steady!

ReplyDeleteThe ships look more like pine than oak, but I'm sure the lads appreciate the sentiment!
Nice Naval contingent there Tim.
ReplyDeleteHi Tim,
ReplyDeleteInterested to hear about the gloss paint spray - it looks pretty good for sure.
I also noted the bases - trimmed to fit - is the card the standard size for FLW (assuming there is one - the rules are not to hand!).
They are looking very good though and I am ashamed at my own lack of progress!
All the best,
DC
Don M
ReplyDeleteThanks - hopefully I'll get them varnished tonight.

ReplyDeleteThe spray paint is made by 'Rustoleum' from whence came also the primer. Helpfully, B&Q now carry this range.
The bases are my standard 3x4cm. There is as yet no FLW standard - I just find they give the figures some additional stability. These are mdf, but some of my figures are based on card.
They actually look pretty good. The blue hats are a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI've only tried spraying once, some WWII Canadians sprayed flat drab with details picked out. I was pretty happy with it.
Can't wait to see them in action, you can't beat the sight of a naval landing party in the field.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, Brian

ReplyDeleteI use a spray undercoat for virtually everything. The temptation of the more or less right shade of gloss blue in a spray can was just too much to resist.

ReplyDeleteThe second battalion is already sprayed and might even get painted this month!
