Naval Wargamers - an image problem?

My thanks to Dave from PT Dockyard for his permission to post this image - as previously seen on TMP.
Interestingly, the final picture (which also appears in the Fletcher Pratt book) shows a game in progress in Fletcher Pratt's New York appartment in 1938.

    As funny as the normal war gammer one - if not more so...are the cat in the hat and mann crossing the line?!
