1/1200 Fleet Review - Imperial Japanese Navy

Edited 10/12/12 - due to a considerable expansion of my 1/1200 fleets, readers may also like to view this more recent post.
French and Italians excepted, the smallest of my fleets is this contingent from the Imperial Japanese Navy.  Headed by an inevitable Revell Yamato, this flotilla also includes destroyers (Akitsuka, Fubuki, Amagiri - all metal castings); the seaplane carrier Mizuho (a delightful wooden scratchbuild bought in a junk shop); and two light cruisers - the Yubari and Ayase.  These last two are in fact the same model - there was only one real Yubari but a second was planned.  Close enough for me.
Just in case you've not been counting, the Japs bring my total of 1/1200 warships in 'commission' to 66. How the hell did that happen?

  1. Tim,

No Japanese aircraft carrier as yet? I am sure that you will rectify that omission in the enar future.

    All the best,

I'm not convinced naval aviation will catch on. But in case it does, I do have a plan....

  3. The sheer size of those Yamotos never ceases to amaze me!

It is an intimidatingly big gun platform!

I'm not convinced a single seaplane carrier would fly off much of an air strike! Watch this space though....
