MIG-21 - part 3

The three MIG-21s are now finished, following the expenditure of no blood, little sweat and only a few tears.   But a lot of silver paint.  I'm rather pleased with the results though.  All have been finished in Soviet markings as I need Russian aircraft for the planned game.
These kits have been a pleasure to build, so expect to see further models from the rest of the small range of Tamiya 1/100 aircraft on this blog in future.  Especially as some of my other favourites are included - such as the EE Lightning and Dassault Mirage III.  Oh yes.
'Red 26'.  This is actually the 'spare' Fishbed which I chose to model with its wheels down and centreline fuel tank in place.
'Red 66', with R-3S 'Atoll' AA missiles on the wing pylons.
'Green 61' - otherwise identical to Red 66.
61 & 66 in 'flight'.
Fishbeds and friends, with some very confused Roman cavalry in the background.

  1. They have turned out nice in the end. What will they be used for? WD North display game?

They are for a game which will be run at WD's Conference of Wargamers in July 2012. The rest of the game is still vague ideas at present...

  3. Tim Gow,

If the game involves Major T J Kong and General Turgidson you can sign me up for the game NOW!

    All the best,

    Bob

Major T J "King" Kong: Well, boys, we got three engines out, we got more holes in us than a horse trader's mule, the radio is gone and we're leaking fuel and if we was flying any lower why we'd need sleigh bells on this thing... but we got one little budge on them Rooskies. At this height why they might harpoon us but they dang sure ain't gonna spot us on no radar screen!

General "Buck" Turgidson: If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!

You're not too far adrift, but the 'intruder' in this lawn game will in fact be a British aircraft, with a name beginning with 'V'......

Thanks - you clearly share my 'nostalgia' for the Cold War!

  7. After a recent sort-out of my stuff I discovered an unbuilt 1:144 kit of a Backfire B I bought about 20 years ago.
Your enthusiasm is catching and I might actually have to build it now !

It is a true classic - very functional and not an ounce of 'fat' anywhere. Not at all like me...
