Hot on the heels of my 'vanilla' Staghound, we have it's rather sexier relative. This is another Raventhorpe model and apart from the barrel of the 6 pounder gun being a bit chunky it's a pretty good representation. Given the size (and weight) of the Crusader turret, one wonders how many were rolled while their divers were engaged in what the modern motoring press call 'spirited cornering'.
Battlefield ingenuity at it's best, as in anything that can be done to get a bigger gun in an A/C
ReplyDeleteEven if it is just a 6pdr it's three times better than a 2pdr pop-gun
Probably best needed for its HE effect!
Again very nice!
Great stuff. Especially true about the weight of the turret.
ReplyDeleteRiveting post!
Well this one has some teeth!
ReplyDeleteThink you may be right about
it's cornering capabilities,
heat to be firing and driving
this puppy across rough country!

ReplyDeleteI remember using rules years ago in which light vehicles with big guns were very 'cost effective'. Might have been the old WRG skirmish set. I don't think the 6-pdr had an effective HE round, but you'd feel a lot better about having it to hand.

ReplyDeleteThe MkIII is rather a compelling combination - rather like an early Panhard AML-90. Riveting - very good.

ReplyDeleteI understand that Staghound was designed for use in North Africa but it arrived too late. It would have been great in the desert but was probably a bit bulky for NW Europe.
