The Battle of Mokra, 1939 - part 3

Turn 6 - 1600-1800
Pz Rgt 4 pulled back from the central woods while the attack on Mokra continued with Train No.53 again joining in, together with the mighty tankette sqn.  In this round of combat 2PD lost 2SP and the Poles 3SP (1 from each stand).
The reserve cavalry rgt was dispatched to the crossroads.
Pz Rgt 3 continued it's attack in the south, finally overrunning the Polish position.
The situation at 1800.  The Polish artillery has been silent this turn due to relocating to the woods east of Mokra.
Another view, showing Train No.53 in action.
Pz Rgt 4 trembles before the might of the Polish armour.  No really.
Turn 7 - 1800-2000
In the north Schtz Rgt 2 attacks the cavalry in the woods.  The cavalry, however, has retreated!
Pz Rgt 4 makes another attack on Mokra, opposed by the remaining cavalry, train and artillery.
These two groups have now fought each other to a standstill.

In the south, the victorious Pz Rgt 3 engages the reserve cavalry. Both sides suffer 1SP losses.
This turn's Stuka attack was seen off (and not before time) by Polish fighters.
A classic case of "I've got the toy and I'm going to damn well use it!"  PZL-11 by True North.
Turn 8 - 2000+
The HQ of 2PD concludes that the attack has stalled and disengages for the night.  Meanwhile Wolynska (and Train No.53) retire from the field.

As I said at the start, this was a very small game (by Megablitz standards at least), but it was nice to get some toys, and in particular the Poles, on the table.

  1. Nice report, I can see how the game could easily be part of a bigger mini campaign

The early war kit really works on table

The armoured train steals the show, with teh Polish fighter squadron coming a close second :)

Very much a case of 'never mind the quality, it'll look good in the photos!' It's not a bad philosophy.

At least the train was there historically. I just felt that the PZL deserved an outing. I really must make another armoured train - unless you all talk me out of it...

  6. Tim,

I have enjoyed all three parts of your battle report, and it shows that it is quite possible to fight a smallish battle with Megablitz and get a reasonable result.

I would be interested to know what the Germans and Poles do next.

As for another armoured train ... why not!

    All the best,

    Bob

I knew you'd enjoy the train! If I pick up a cheap train set in the sales I'll build at least one more armoured wagon.
The game was fought on my 6x3 foot table.
